It might not look like much but this is one of the original survey markers put down 200 years ago when the streets and avenues for what you now see in New York City were laid out. It’s in Central Park and yes it takes some searching both online and in person to find. It took last year’s trip up here and two visits this time to find it but we did!

Morning lows in the 30’s and all of these people are running around like it’s no big deal living at what must be the North Pole! Ummmm excuse me, are you people insane!?!? What is this layering you speak of? Oh wait, it really does work! #FloridianProblemsinNYC BTW, afternoon highs in the low 50’s do make it quite manageable.

You tend to get used to it except when it get to 5 degrees and the wind is blowing between the buildings. Stores and subways are a great place to duck into for shelter.

Current situation on our last morning in NYC.  The biggest question right now is whether it’s worth braving the cold to run to Brooklyn for bagels and then walk the Brooklyn Bridge on the way back before we get into the rest of what we have planned for the day (which would be visiting Wall St. and Chelsea Market with a train ride back up to Mid Town before catching our ride home).

Diana, we should support those businesses that are open for people to get meals that they might not be able to prepare for themselves. There are many first responders, hospital workers and others that have to work and they appreciate the few businesses that are open as well. I have worked many Thanksgiving days, Christmas Eves, Christmas Days and Easter Days and it’s something we all get used to even if we don’t want to be there. Families typically make arrangements when they have family members hat work on holidays.
1 day ago Lisa Kasza Pierce 4
Diana I used to think like you with regards to restaurants until 20 years ago and we ate at a restaurant between ICU hours while my Grandpa was in the hospital. We never could eat in it again, as he died a few weeks later. We were thankful because who wanted to cook on that day. Other than that and a severe cold when first parents we do try to stay home and not be the big presence for places to want to stay open, but I have seen a lot of senior citizens who do not cook, their family are not around or make it a point to be, and would not end up eating today without these places open. Also be grateful they were not clogging up the grocery stores walking up and down the aisles.
1 day ago Sissy Jumper 3
First responders , nurses etc truckers and those that can't physically be with their families thank you to these restaurants who are open ! One thing to remember is to tip very very well :)
1 day ago Diana Perry 2
I’m sure that’s a small percentage (very small) of why they are open, it can’t possibly be for the mighty dollar. These people working shouldn’t have to.. they should be with there families. But Happy Thanksgiving to all

In 2002 my dad was hospitalized with cancer at Shands hospital in Gainesville and my son was hospitalized in Arnold Palmer hospital in Orlando. My poor mother visited both hospitals that day and we were very grateful she was able to stop and grab something for us all to eat. We never know anyone's personal situation. ❤️
1 day ago Ortega Hodge 1
As you said, DB, families will make arrangements. For instance my mom works tomorrow so everyone thought that it would be a great idea to have dinner yesterday instead. I heard it was great! I’ve also zflown into town a week early since I couldn’t be there for the holiday and my mom made a special dinner early for the whole family. You do what you gotta do. :) Also, some folks are grateful for the time and a half.
