Keep up to date with the businesses and events that we spotlight each day on our social media streams in one spot and without having to be on those social media streams! This is your Daily Update.
Here’s today’s list of events in Brevard County and where you can listen to live music and it’s brought to you by Doug Herrell Plumbing, Brevard’s #1 Choice for Polybutylene Piping Replacement. Click on the image below to see the list.
Finishing up the last of the batch of bagels I brought home from a day trip to NYC last spring (yes you can throw bagels in the freezer to reheat and toast at a later date) to make some bagel breakfast sandwiches
These bagels came from libertybagel in Midtown Manhattan.
Where’s your go to spot in Brevard County for bagels?
There’s some pretty dense fog around Brevard County this morning, but that’ll burn off in a couple hours and we’re expecting to see an afternoon high around 80 with a slight chance of some wet stuff.
Things will cool down a bit starting tomorrow and we’ll see some chilly weather for the first couple weeks of 2025, including the coldest temps of this winter so far. We’re still not going to jumpo on the bus that some online weather pages continue to put out there that we might see the coldest temps ever in Brevard County during the second week of January. When the
US National Weather Service Melbourne Florida puts out something about that’s when you would see something about it here. As of now, they’re thinking it’ll get down into the mid 30’s, not down into the the teens. No what ifs to get clicks or shares here people. Just what the professionals are saying. Kinda like hurricane season. I don’t get into the sensationalism to stir things up.
The 93rd launch of the year lifted off early this morning and of course
Florida Today‘s Craig Bailey was out there to capture it!
Another record setting year for launches thanks to
#SpaceX and they’re hoping to expand on that even more heading into 2025.
Start your Tuesday off with an Acai Smoothie Bowl at
Juice ‘N Java Cafe on N. Orlando Ave. in Downtown Cocoa Beach!
Needing that first (or second) cup of coffee of the day? Grab your favorite caffeinated beverage at
Apocalypse Coffee Roasters on US1 in Melbourne.
If it’s time to replace your roof, click over to the
3LP Roofing page to see plenty of examples of their work and give them a call for a quote.
Keep your property from literally washing away with some new gutters from
Gutters Unlimited.
Get yourself a new ebike from locally owned
Someguysebikes on Wickham Road in West Melbourne where they back up their sales with two years of service and parts.
Wassis Meats is open until 2 p.m. today and then they’ll be closed tomorrow and Thursday, so stop by to stock up for the rest of the week.
Soooo, I saw this gorgeous example of American muscle at
Stick to the Details Auto Detailing in West Melbourne while it was in their care and talk about making sure this Mustang is protected inside and out from Florida’s harsh climate! Click the post below to see what all the team at Stick to the Details did to it and if you’re wanting your vehicle to be similarly protected, give them a call.
Locally owned
ATH Trailer Sales and Repair on Avocado Ave. in Melbourne is always ready to make a deal on one of the trailers they have on their lot, so click over to their website to see what they have in stock and stop by to make that deal!
If you own a local business and you’re open today, let our audience know what time you’re closing tonight for New Year’s Eve. Click on the image below to see who will be open and for how long today.
No it’s not a traditional New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day meal (don’t you worry, I will have a slower cooker with black eyed peas and one with collard greens going overnight tonight for tomorrow), but I had a piece of flat brisket sitting in the freezer that needed to be used.
Except it’s not brisket anymore. It was cured into corned beef, coated in my own pastrami rub and now it’s sitting inside my
Big Green Egg from
Wassis Meats for a nice, long smoke bath. And when it’s done, it’ll be some pretty amazing housemade pastrami from Cafe Mi Casa.
Go take a hike tomorrow people.
Seriously, get outside and enjoy what is looking like a perfect day to be outside as we all welcome the new year.
Booking a sunset cruise with
Cocoa Beach Catamaran (that has boats in Cocoa Beach AND Merritt Island) would be the perfect way to start the new year!
The cakes at
Eatz Suntree will make you forget all about those New Year’s resolutions before you even have a chance to make them!
If you find yourself away from home today or tonight and you’ve consumed an adult beverage or three too many…. Click the link below and call
AAA‘s
#TowToGo hotline where they will pick you and your vehicle up wherever you might be and then get you both home safely.
Let’s not have a single person driving while intoxicated tonight (or any night). After all, putting other people’s lives at risk because you think you’re okay to drive is in no way okay.
The link to the info for Tow To Go is in comments below because this social media platform let’s posts without exterior links be seen more.
And if there are any local towing companies offering this service, please put that info in comments too.
It’s kinda soupy out there still as the fog hasn’t completely gone away everywhere and there’s plenty of low level clouds hanging around. That means a trip to any of the three
The Soup Shop locations (on Wickham Road in Melbourne, on Lake Andrew Dr. in Viera and on Palm Bay Road in West Melbourne) for lunch or dinner is a great idea!
It’s the last
#tacotuesday of 2024 and it’s only appropriate that you enjoy some tacos at
𝗙𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼 on Babcock St. in Melbourne or @Flying Burro Viera on Lake Andrew Dr. in Viera!
Who ya got today during the College Football Playoff quarterfinals tonight and tomorrow or any of the other bowl games that are going on today?
I swear, the more you try to delete the random garbage that shows up in your Facebook newsfeed, even more random garbage keeps showing up and it keeps getting worse.
I just finished renewing my annual membership to the
Brevard Zoo and yes memberships are a hugely cost effective way to be able to enjoy the zoo all year long. The link to their membership page is in comments below.
I honestly had forgotten about these events at the
Florida Institute of Technology Panther Dining Hall and I don’t know why they popped up in my head to look up today, but yeas they are still hosting these dining events and the next one is coming up on 1/29/25! There’s no menu posted at this point and yes these events I believe are still open to the public (just like the public can go eat in the dining hall throughout the week).
I’m thinking that I need to run by for lunch sometime and for sure I want to attend the next event. Oh, and yes I will remember next school year to post about them.
You’ve got until 5 pm to stop by Urban Tea and Creamery IHB on A1A in Indian Harbour Beach to grab whatever kind of a treat you can create!
KOI Japanese Restaurant Merritt Island on 520 in Merritt Island is open until 9 pm tonight if you’re still looking for dinner options and they’ll be open normal hours tomorrow as well.
One last pie for dinner in 2024 and yep it’s from Genna Pizza Company on Wickham Road in Melbourne! Time to get back home and hunker down with The Boss and the soon to be freaked out Big Doofus.
I spied a DC Roofing crew on their way out to a job earlier today.
Looking to get a new roof installed in 2025? They are who put on my metal roof installed 2023!
The sun has gone down and the fireworks are going up. Don’t blow any fingers off tonight people.
The results of one last cook at Cafe Mi Casa on the Big Green Egg from Wassis Meats in 2024.
That housemade smoked pastrami is if I do say so myself and I figured whipping up a batch of brownies tonight wasn’t a bad idea since the thing was sitting at 350 as I had opened the vents a bit to burn off the remaining lump charcoal. And yes a kamado style grill/smoker is probably the most versatile outdoor cooking contraption you can buy. Stop by Wassi’s when they open back up on Friday to see the whole line of BGE grills and all of the accessories.
Got mine too!
You can bet that Sebastian Inshore Fishing/Going Coastal Charters is ready to start 2025 off on the water!
Taking a quick look at the forecast for the next couple weeks because there’s still this fascination with the fact that some weather models are saying that things are going to get pretty cold the second week of the month.
First of all, none, as in none of the national weather entities are saying that we’re going to experience a hard freeze (and yes you’ve likely seen some images showing morning lows down in the upper teens for one day). This is simply sensationalism at its worst and just like with a tropical system, there’s no way that anyone can tell you what’s going to happen with a storm system that doesn’t even exist yet. Remember, the weather gods themselves typically can’t tell us if it’s going to rain or not on the day it rains or it doesn’t. No one can predict what’s goign to happen in two weeks and throwing out one model without explaining that it’s only one possibility is just not cool IMO. People these days can get freaked out pretty easy and consider this page your virtual edible gummy that calms you down.
When that system does form sometime next week and it starts to show what it’s capable of, then you can start looking at what to expect. Do be prepared for some very chilly weather and be ready to give any pets that might stay outside a place to stay warm. Other than that, we’ll all watch the forecast as it gets more clear and you can come here for zero hype anytime.
This page will be updated throughout the day as we add more content on our social media streams.
You’re probably already following our Facebook business page, but we also have a Facebook group page Destination Brevard.
