Finally was able to put one of the Destination Brevard Mustangs through an official timed autocross course this past weekend thanks to an invitation from the Cape Kennedy Corvette Club. They hold their autocross events at the American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne and several owners who don’t drive corvettes were welcomed out for some fun. I was joined by TJ, the owner of Trick Pro Motorsports Inc. in Palm Bay who let me know about the event as well as several other Mustang owners (including a new Mach E), a Subaru, a Chevy Cobalt, a Dodge Challenger and an imported right side driver car that I did not catch the make/model of.
The first day of the event saw 37 cars show up which was one off their record of 38 and they even had a couple travel all the way from Michigan to be there!
It was a great learning experience for me while watching the drivers from the CKCC run their cars around the track and waiting for my group to be called I admit that I was pretty nervous for those first few runs. Even through 14 runs each day, there were still nerves since you’re always wanting to push a little more without doing something stupid.
I threw a GoPro onto different parts of my car both days and you can see a few runs in the video below.
I would like to thank the CKCC, the AMCM and Trick Pro Motorsports Inc. for making this happen and I know several of us are looking forward to heading back out on regular basis to continue to improve our skills on the track.
