You don’t have to drive all the way to Lake Buena Vista and Walt Disney World (WDW) to enjoy a meal with Disney characters.  You can have breakfast with Goofy and Pluto every Saturday morning from 8 a.m.-noon at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort which lies just a few miles south of the Brevard County/ Indian River County line on A1A.  That’s just a hop, skip and a “Yaaah-hoo-hoo-hoo-hooey” away from most of the Space Coast and a lot less hectic of a visit than if you were to head over to the parks and/ or resorts at WDW.

You don’t have to be staying at the resort to enjoy meals at the Wind & Waves Grill or even to visit the resort itself.  You will park across the street and walk underneath A1A through a tunnel to get to the entrance (if you need to drop off passengers at the front door, you can do that before you park).  While not as extravagant as many of the resorts over on WDW property, when you walk into the lobby at the Vero Beach Resort, you still know that you’re somewhere special.

There’s a gift shop to your right as you stroll through the lobby and The Green Cabin Room Bar is right up at the top of the stairs to the right.  You can also visit the Wind & Waves Market out by the pool as well as the Wind & Waves Bar (also by the pool), but no you cannot use the pool.  That’s strictly for resort guests.

Let’s get back to breakfast since that’s why you’re going and here’s a look at the menu for the character breakfast.

This meal starts off with a basket of assorted made in house mini pastries including; bear claws, croissants, Mickey shaped biscuits and blueberry muffins.  You’ll get butter and a delicious mixed berry compote to go with all of that and they will offer you a variety of juices and coffee drinks, plus a few special drinks that are an upcharge from the basic price of the meal.  We both tried their Citrus Splash (Flavors of Coconut with Orange, Banana, Pineapple and Grenadine) and it was very refreshing.

There are nine entree options for adults and a trio of options for kids 9 & under, but you can always pay the adult price for your children if they want something on the grownups side.

Today we tried the Avocado Toast and the Buttermilk Blueberry Pancakes.

The Avocado Toast isn’t your typical mass produced version and it is 100% enough to fill you up.  The edamame is a nice touch and this dish comes with home fries.

Each of the pancakes (you get three) are loaded with fresh blueberries, but they are also covered in a house made blueberry syrup.  No additonal syrup is needed!  You also get your choice of bacon or sausage with them.

I mean, we can’t forget the Mickey Waffles!  Breakfast isn’t really breakfast at a Disney restaurant without Mickey Waffles is it?

We can’t leave out Goofy and Pluto either!  Both of them work their way around the room, stopping at each table so that you can get photos with them and they even host a surf themed dance-a-long during the meal!

Everybody loves hanging with Goofy and Pluto and you are coming here for a character breakfast after all!

Plan on spending a little bit of time, but not because of any reason other than you’re wanting to take your time enjoying you meal and waiting for Goofy and Pluto to make it to your table.  The restaurant isn’t overly large, so it’s gauranteed that you’ll get get to see both of them.

And if you’re still hungry after your meal, don’t worry about asking for a couple of extra pastries or even a couple extra slices of bacon.  You’re not going to leave with an empty stomach.

The price for this character breakfast experience is $35 for adults and $22 for children 9 & under and it really is a great way to let your kids spend some time with two of Disney’s most popular characters without driving all the way over to Walt Disney World and definitely without dealing with the hustle and bustle of that little place called Walt Disney World.
